Ah Yes!

Big Green helps Big Wind hide bird and bat butchery
"It uses tons of fossil fuels every day, emits a greenhouse gas that's like CO2 on steroids, can’t do the job it’s made for, costs taxpayers exorbitant fees, and makes the federal government look mentally ill for giving it outrageous subsidies. It also chops up birds, bats and scenery with roads and monstrous 400-foot-tall machines. “It” is wind power, of course.

These harsh facts were condensed into a preliminary draft study of wind subsidies by researcher Teresa Platt, who circulated it to specialists for vetting. I obtained a copy of the extensively footnoted working draft, which gave chilling reality to the truth behind wind industry claims.

“Every year since the 1980s,” Platt’s study said, “the 5,000 turbines at NextEra’s Altamont Pass in California kill thousands of slow-reproducing red-tailed hawks, burrowing owls, kestrels, as well as iconic golden eagles, and bats.” The birds Platt mentions are raptors – birds of prey – particularly valued for their agricultural role in killing mice and other crop-damaging rodents. Eagles, both golden eagles and bald eagles, have long impressed Americans for their majesty, and the bald eagle was selected by our Founding Fathers as our national emblem.

I asked Bob Johns, spokesman for the American Bird Conservancy, about wind farm eagle mortality. He confirmed Platt’s study and told me the Altamont operation alone has killed more than 2,000 golden eagles. But that’s not all. “Nationwide, the wind industry kills thousands of golden eagles without prosecution,” Johns said, “while any other American citizen even possessing eagle parts such as feathers would face huge fines and prison time.”"
But don't let that stop you. You could always declare it a "no fly zone".

Time For Another...

The Plot Thickens

And We Think Canada Post... bad:

West Village woman receives war-time letter sent 70 years ago and is now trying to track down the lieutenant or his family
"A New York woman claiming to have received a mysterious letter sent to her apartment nearly 70-years ago by a lieutenant during World War II is seeking the public’s help to track down its author.

Writer and actor Abbi Jacobson says that in February she discovered the startling handwritten letter in the mail box of her West Village apartment with a time stamp dating it to 1944 from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lt. Joseph O. Matthews, a name Jacobson says she’s never heard, penned the letter to his wife, Mrs. Joseph O Matthews, that November."
Other than that, it's sort of a sweet story.

It seems to me our political class has betrayed us. First it was Harper-Hitler for any number of horrific misdeeds, then it was Rob Ford, now it's Winnipeg's mayor, Sam Katz:

Winnipeg Mayor Caught Littering
"...a Winnipeg woman saw the mayor take a piece of chewing gum out of his mouth and casually toss it onto the grass, showing a cavalier disregard for the city he governs and its grass lawns."
What's this country coming to?

PS: I wonder what the media would be doing if Ford had been caught smoking marijuana instead of cocaine? He'd likely be a hero.

It's About Bloody Time

Putting The Great back in Great Britain:

British Take to Streets to Protest Barbaric Woolrich Beheading

And a bit further south:

Italy: Islam denied income tax revenue
"Mosques in Italy will not receive a share of income tax revenue the Italian government allocates to religious faiths each year. Hindu and Buddhist temples, Greek Orthodox churches and Jehovah's Witnesses will be eligible for the funds, according to a bill approved by the Italian cabinet in May and still must be approved by parliament."
"Until now, the government had earmarked 8 percent of income tax revenue for Italy's established churches. The great majority of these funds go to the Catholic Church, although if they wish, individual tax payers may elect to give the money to charities and cultural projects instead.

The head of COREIS, one of Italy's largest Muslim groups, Yahya Pallavicini, said he was bitter that Islam had been denied the revenue from Italian income tax.

"Work should be begun on legally recognising those moderate Muslims who have for years shown themselves to be reliable interlocutors who are free of and fundamentalist ideology," he said."
Well, get out there and march and protest and raise a ruckus against those of your "religion" who are making a bad name for you. What are you waiting for?

"Mr. Depardieu made it clear that his strident antitax sentiments had not eased, despite his qualification as a Russian tax resident for a flat 13 percent income tax levy. 1000-year-old coins found in Northern Territory may rewrite Australian history

The scientist wants to revisit the location where five coins were found in the Northern Territory in 1944 that have proven to be 1000 years old, opening up the possibility that seafarers from distant countries might have landed in Australia much earlier than what is currently believed."

Another One From The Sisterhood

"An old man lay reclined across three seats in the movie theatre.

When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the old man, "I'm sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat."

The old man mumbled something but didn't budge. The usher became more impatient.

"Sir, if you don't get up,, I'm going to have to call the manager."

This time, the old man just groaned. The usher marched briskly back up the aisle. In a moment, he returned with the manager.

Together, the two of them tried a number of times to move the disheveled old man, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police.

The Police officer surveyed the situation briefly and asked, "All right then, sir, what's your name?"

"Fred," the old man moaned.

"Thank you, Fred. Now, where are you from?" asked the policeman.

With terrible pain in his voice, and without moving a muscle, Fred moaned, 'The balcony...'"

It's Been A Long Time Coming....

...but I think I've finally figured out what Canuckistanis can call their version of the American Tea Party movement. Anyone with a smattering of knowledge of American history likely knows about the Boston Tea Party in which disgruntled colonials boarded a ship in the Boston harbour and tossed a shipment of tea into the ocean in order to revolt against the taxes attached to the shipment of tea. Being somewhat tamer, we Canucks don't have such an event in our history that would lend itself, or its name, to a modern day tax revolt. BUT....

...we do have a drink that could be pressed into service. And that drink would be Newfoundland Screech. Except we wouldn't be tossing it into the ocean. We'd be imbibing the stuff. Helluva lot more fun. And we could all call in sick the next day, which would be our version of revolting, cause we'd be tossing our cookies. Come to think about it, it would be kinda revolting.

Tsarnaev’s Body Ready for Burial. But Where?
"Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings who died more than two weeks ago after a shootout with the police and after being run over by his brother as he fled the scene, was still above ground on Monday.

His widow, Katherine Russell, who has expressed shock at the accusations against her husband, declined to claim the crushed and bullet-riddled body. Finally, an estranged uncle from Maryland, who had little love for Mr. Tsarnaev, claimed it, saying he believed his nephew deserved a proper burial.

“A dead person needs to be buried,” the uncle, Ruslan Tsarni, said.

But by Monday evening, no cemetery had be found that would receive him. And officials at all levels of government spent the day tossing around responsibility for his burial like a hot potato."
Well, there's always the Atlantic Ocean.

Remember When...

...Canadians used to boast and brag about being able to travel all over the world while Americans had to pretend they were Canadian to get the same advantage?

That's changing, but only the Canadian advantage part. I don't think there's yet any advantage to be gained by Canadians pretending to be Americans, so that hasn't changed, but can Americans still gain any leverage by pretending to be Canadian?

Canada takes fight for oilsands crude to Europe
"Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver is in Europe to fight new requirements the EU hopes to slap on oil producers he says "discriminate" against Canada.

The EU's new Fuel Quality Directive, which stipulates that fuel suppliers reduce greenhouse gases in energy intended for road transport, singles out oil from Alberta's oilsands as more polluting than conventional crude.

In addition to telling the Europeans Canada is an "excellent destination for investment capital," Oliver also hopes to convince them their emissions reductions "aren't fair," largely because they "discriminate against oil they're not importing."

Oil from the Arab Gulf states, Oliver says, is produced with much higher emissions than that in Alberta.

California and Venezuela, he claims, don't even know how much carbon they emit. Without emissions numbers from all oil countries, Canada shouldn't be singled out, he said.

"(The Europeans) are targeting the Canadian oilsands by name, giving it a rating, but they're not looking specifically at other emitters who haven't disclosed their emissions," he said.

Oliver said Canada "doesn't necessarily" want to have Europe as an export market for its crude, adding he only cares about what the EU is saying about Canadian oil because it's "being stigmatized."
On the other hand, I don't think it will be long now before Western Civilization's malcontents will slink back into their caves, like they have always done.
