There's One Minister...

...in Baby Trudeau's new Cabinet who I can really admire. His name is Harjit Sajjan, and he really know how to kick ass, and that should be with capital letters:

He is a combat veteran, serving in Bosnia and on three deployments to Kandahar, Afghanistan."

You have no idea how badass Trudeau's Defence Minister really is

I've Been Watching...

...websites that have to do with the election. Aside from the fact that the Liberals are leading (God help us), it's interesting to see information on some of the parties. For example, there is still a Rhinoceros Party. 1698 people voted for the Communist Party. (Amazing, that. I thought it would be three, only. The leader of the party, the leader's wife and some poor misbegotten hanger on.) There's a Pirate Party with 374 votes, and the Radical Marijuana Party with 721 votes (I wonder how they found the polling station. But I digress.) Only 39.24% of eligible voters showed up.

Hmmmmm...

Reports coming in from all over Canada: Pre-marked ballots favouring Conservatives are STILL being given to voters!

Somebody wants to get the Conservatives in trouble. I wonder who that could be??

From that last article:

"Conservative ridings received one-and-a-half times more of that infrastructure fund than opposition seats did, a recent Globe and Mail analysis found."

Well, duh!! The Cons do have a majority, so it is to be expected Conservative held ridings might receive more, than other parties. But how much more?

That's hardly surprising. Gotta shore up the base, after all. Moreover, the MPs from these ridings may well have direct access to the real power brokers in Ottawa (ie) the PM and his cabinet, so they will be dispensed with a view to cementing the Conservatives hold on power. It's interesting that the MP for Niagara on the Lake is not just a member of the Conservative Party, but is a cabinet minister. This is politics as usual.

Infrastructure grants tend to be dispensed in portions and as such they should be completed in time for Canada's 150th birthday. Dispensation of small amounts over the course of three or four years will make for good headlines in local community media, keeping a glow emanating around the Cons in those ridings. It would be interesting to know more about each recipient. Are those communities at risk of voting for the Liberals or the NDP? I'm going to do some digging to see what I can come up with.

On pollster Angus Reed's webpage there's a chart showing that the Cons will get only 42% of the vote in the next election and 52% goes to the opposition parties. But that 52% is nothing to worry about 'cause it's split between the Liberals, the NDP, the Greens, the Bloc Quebecois, and a host of fringe parties that don't have a hope in hell of even fielding candidates in all constituencies, let alone winning any.
