The UN Human Rights Farce Gets Worse

"Over the past few decades, the bias against Israel at the United Nations has reached the level of caricature. The disproportionate interest in anything that the Jewish state does matched with the world body’s general indifference to real crimes being perpetrated anywhere else is an object lesson in the definition of prejudice. But just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the choice of a man to head a UN Human Rights Council probe of the fighting in Gaza who has already called for the prosecution of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demonstrates just how ridiculous the anti-Israel farce there has become.

That the UN Human Rights Council, whose membership is made up of many of the worst dictatorships and human-rights offenders in the world, wouldn’t give Israel a fair hearing was already a given. The Council devotes most of its attention to attempts to undermine the Jewish state’s legitimacy or to promote libelous attacks on its policies. While a lot of the attention on this panel was devoted to the decision of George Clooney’s fiancée to decline participation in the probe, the appointment of Canadian law professor William Schabas demonstrates that the Council is not even interested in the appearance of fairness.

Schabas has already demonstrated his animus for Israel and actually called for Netanyahu to be hauled before the International Criminal Court in The Hague for prosecution. Lest anyone think he takes sides in Israeli political debates, he also advocated the prosecution of Shimon Peres in a comment in which he compared Israel’s actions in Gaza to the genocide in Darfur."

UN Threatens Israel… Israeli Official Says, “See if I Care!”

"The United Nations Human Rights Council has been making fools of themselves by blatantly supporting terrorist organizations against Israel since its inception in 2006. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay recently said, for example, that Israel may be guilty of war crimes for not providing its Iron Dome defense technology to the Hamas terrorists to use to protect civilians in Gaza.

The council apparently does not know–or, more likely, does not care–that Hamas began the current conflict with the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers and has since fired more than 3,000 rockets at Israel while hiding in the Gaza Strip behind human shields.

In a blatantly anti-Semitic move, the council recently voted 29-1 to investigate Israel for possible human rights violations in its conflict with the radical Islamic terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The United States, to her credit, was the one dissenting vote; the European members of the council mostly abstained, no doubt fearing Muslim backlash in their home countries.

According to WZ, Israeli Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni issued a brief response to the vote on Facebook: “I have [four] words to say about the decision of the UN human rights council – see if I care!”"

"In the midst of international condemnation of Israel’s attacks on civilians in Gaza, Canada’s ambassador to the UN issued a statement last week unequivocally supporting Israel’s “right to defend itself” and maintaining that Hamas was a “terrorist organization,” laying blame for civilian deaths firmly at the Palestinian group’s feet.

On Wednesday this week, Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper reiterated this stance after the Israeli bombing of a UN school in Gaza that killed at least 17 displaced Palestinians who were sheltering there, saying, “We hold the terrorist organization Hamas responsible for this. They have initiated and continue this conflict and continue to seek the destruction of the state of Israel.""

The Deaths Of Civilians In Gaza Must End, And Only The UN Can Do It!!!

"While the UN won't discuss the rocket caches and the Hamas laid booby traps in supposedly neutral UN facilities. mosques and civilian homes or Hamas using civilians as human shields, there is one thing the UN and of course, the media, weighed in on quite extensively...civilian casualties in Gaza. The latest instance was the shelling of a UN school in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza yesterday...which of course, the UN is blaming on Israel. It was being used as a shelter for civilians whom had evacuated elsewhere. At least 16 people were killed and some 100 wounded.

This occurred during a humanitarian truce which as usual, only Israel observed."

At UN, Canada Blames Hamas for Gaza Casualties

"Canada used a chance to speak at the United Nations to issue a strong defence of Israel in the Israeli-Hamas conflict and blamed militants in the Gaza Strip for a death toll that has now climbed above 600.

“The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there can be no justification,” Guillermo Rishchynski, Canada’s representative to the UN, said in a debate before the Security Council.

Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, has “sought to deliberately put civilians, from both sides, in mortal danger. We mourn the resulting death and suffering,” Rishchynski said during Canada’s turn in a day of national statements on the Middle East crisis.

“The Israel Defense Forces have continued to demonstrate a commitment to minimize civilian casualties in response to the relentless rocket attacks,” he added. Rishchynski’s comments were in contrast to remarks by a number of countries that expressed dire concerns about the mounting civilian casualties from Israel’s offensive in Gaza and pressed Israel to do more to lessen the carnage."
