Go Aussies!!!
"Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.[---]
Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques:"
"'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT... Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'
'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.'"

Yay, Aussies
"Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott ruffled liberal feathers across Australia this week, announcing a series of new measures designed to curb Muslim extremists’ freedom and influence.
Among other measures, Abbott announced that Australia will begin denying welfare to individuals thought to be possible terror threats. He clearly linked Muslims extremism with welfare abuse, pointing out that dozens of Australians now fighting against freedom in the Middle East had received welfare while living in Australia.
Abbott didn’t stop at welfare either. He indicated Australia will begin to revoke passports from some individuals with dual nationality and curb overseas travel.
Each of these measures is meant to reduce the mobility of potential Islamic extremists who would either seek to strike inside Australia or bolster the ranks of the Islamic State terror group in the Middle East.
Abbott made his motivation and intentions very clear. “For too long, we have given those who might be a threat to our country the benefit of the doubt,” he said. “We will never sacrifice our freedoms in order to defend them, but we will not let our enemies exploit our decency either.”
Abbott didn’t confine his remarks to policy either. In a statement many Americans will regret didn’t come from our own president, Abbott charged moderate Muslims to take responsibility for what is happening inside their religion and take steps to stop radical Islamic violence"

You Don't Say
"Even basic violations of visa policy would see immigration authorities adopt a tougher, generalised stance against citizens of the offending country. But where Islamic immigration is concerned, even the threat of terrorism won't make Western countries think twice."[---]
"Why was ‘hate sheikh’ at large?” ran the Daily Telegraph headline after the recent Islamist outrage in Australia. That’s a reasonable question, given the Muslim hate sheikh’s record of endless troublemaking. No doubt the Sydney police and the court that granted him bail will also be asking the same question.
And what a track record this serial welfarist parasite and hate preacher had. At the time of the Sydney siege, Man Haron Monis, an Iranian refugee, was already facing charges of involvement in the murder of his wife. Yet he was free to walk the streets.
He had also been convicted of sending grossly offensive letters to the families of soldiers who had fought and died in Afghanistan.
But even that conviction didn’t take the self-styled imam off Australia’s streets. His punishment was 300 hours of “community service”. In other words, the his punishment was to “improve the lives” of the same Australian community he detested and would later terrorise.
Considering that he was also facing 40 counts of sexual assault and indecency, one wonders if he committed any of those sexual assaults as part of his “community service”.
Just what did the Australian authorities think they were up against in a man like Haron Monis? Would they have been so lenient with a non-Muslim? Did the police not ask why, given that this hate sheikh clearly despised Australian values and culture, he had not been deported?"

About That "Global" Warming...
Australia: Lowest Temperature
You'll notice the previous record was in 1994.
I know. I know. The industrial revolution just hasn't come to Australia yet. What else could it be? /sarc

Oops!
I must say, I'm getting a little tired of this topic, but it seems to be taking some time for the true believers (ie- the flat earth society) to accept that Anthropogenic global warming just isn't happening. This is not to say that global warming isn't happening, just that any explanation of it that doesn't blame human produced CO2 just isn't allowed. This entry, on Joanne Nova's website, documents a case in point:
That West Antarctic melting couldn’t be caused by volcanoes could it?
"Despite the 95% certainty of doom, it’s not like we have all the data on heat sources in Antarctica either. Until November last year we didn’t even know one particular volcano was smoldering under a kilometer of ice in West Antarctica. [Emphasis, mine]I wonder which "CBC" she is referring to? Columbia Broadcasting Corporation or the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation or is their an Aussie CBC? Certainly the North American ones could be guilty of this kind bias.
Do volcanoes melt much ice? Could be…
“Eruptions at this site are unlikely to penetrate the 1.2 to 2-km-thick overlying ice, but would generate large volumes of melt water that could significantly affect ice stream flow.” Lough et al 2013
The fastest warming areas of Antarctica — the Peninsula and West Antarctica are part of the Pacific Rim of Fire. Not worth a mention in any “news” service? Not the right kind of propaganda…
Remember — if it’s broadcast on the ABC, BBC or CBC, the whole chain of one-sided-information is fully government funded. They have specialist science units trained not to ask hard questions."

UPDATE:
The Myth of the Climate Change '97%'
"Last week Secretary of State John Kerry warned graduating students at Boston College of the "crippling consequences" of climate change. "Ninety-seven percent of the world's scientists," he added, "tell us this is urgent."
Where did Mr. Kerry get the 97% figure? Perhaps from his boss, President Obama, who tweeted on May 16 that "Ninety-seven percent of scientists agree: #climate change is real, man-made and dangerous." Or maybe from NASA, which posted (in more measured language) on its website, "Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities."
Yet the assertion that 97% of scientists believe that climate change is a man-made, urgent problem is a fiction. The so-called consensus comes from a handful of surveys and abstract-counting exercises that have been contradicted by more reliable research."

Please insert more coins: Payphone’s future is on the line
"Already a quaint relic in many parts of Canada, the old-fashioned payphone could become even harder to find after the country’s telecommunications regulator rejected Bell Canada’s request to double the cost of a call to $1.
The phone company asked for the price hike because it’s getting harder to make a profit from payphones as more consumers carry cellphones in their pockets and communicate via texts and instant messages. An average payphone took in $1,000 only five years ago; that number is closer to $700 a year now."
I grew up with an massive old wooden box attached to the wall, with a mouth piece to speak into and an ear piece resting on a cradle on the side. There was a hand operated crank on the side of the box. The phone was on a party-line with four or five households on the line. To dial someone else on the line, one used the crank to ring a code of long and short rings - for example 2 long and 1 short. I don't remember what our code was, but I do remember that you could hear anyone's phone ringing, if they were on the same line, and were only supposed to lift up the receiver if your code was ringing. You could lift up the receiver (ear piece) and listen in on your neighbours' conversations, or, if need be, interrupt them and tell them to hang up because you needed to make some sort of urgent call. I don't remember when that changed, but the next big innovation was a rotary dial and then push-button. Ooooo. Progress!!
I also remember when payphones needed only 10 cents to operate.
But there are some things older than I am:
