Been There, Done That

Absolutely fascinating.

The largest gathering of snakes in the world happens annually in Manitoba, Canada
.

Garter snakes don't bother me at all. I once had a bunch of them thrown in my face by a bunch of ten year old boys who were sure it would freak me out. They (the boys) were soooo disappointed.

Sex-trade worker Delores Brower's remains identified

"Alberta RCMP say human remains found near Leduc, south of Edmonton, are 33-year-old Delores Brower, who was reported missing by family in June 2005.

The Métis woman, known by the nickname Spider, worked in the sex trade in Edmonton and was last seen by police on the corner of 118th Avenue and 70th Street on May 13, 2004, at 5:40 a.m. Police said she was trying to get a ride westbound.

Her remains were found on April 19, 2015, on a rural property near Rolleyview, east of Leduc and south of Edmonton."

I used to live in Leduc, so this really strikes a chord:

It's a good twenty years since I lived there, and this was going on then, too.

One of My Favourite Poems

...from one of my favourite poets:

On Children

"Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable
."
We named our son after him.

Creak. Groan.

I've been watching videos about Jean Beliveau, which are all over the place. What a man! What a hockey player! What a legend!

It's making me feel really old, too, 'cause I remember him playing, back in the days when there were only six teams and television was in black and white.

The Berlin Wall

At Least 1 Million to Celebrate 25 Years Since Berlin Wall Fell

Youzers. I remember when the wall came down. It was hard to believe. Afterward it was a bit dicey integrating the two Germanies into one. The formerly East Germans had a difficult time functioning in a free, capitalist society.

Then there was the time when everybody wanted a small piece of the wall to put on their mantel or in their curio cabinet. It certainly was a history changing event.

Previously.

For Some Reason....

...I've been thinking of Arnie Boldt, the one-legged athlete, who amazed the world by winning high-jumping and racing competitions in the Special Olympics:

He and his family lived next door to us in Saskatoon. An amazing kid. He lost his leg in a farm accident involving stepping onto a grain auger. Must have been gawd awful. But he personified the meaning of "indomitable spirit".

Obituary: Archibald (Archie) Andrews, 1941-2014

He was 72.

Did he and Veronica ever get married? I doubt it. That would have destroyed the whole schtick.

Way To Go, Lowell!

Wolfcop premieres in Regina to a sold out crowd

I know the kid who made this movie. He and my son were best buds when they were kids. Lowell lived two doors down the street. They are still good friends. They used to make silly movies when they were kids. Now, it seems Lowell has made a career out of it.

The Only Thing Certain...

...in life is that the older you get, the more butt ugly you become.

Thought: Do you suppose that's why there are no longer any Elvis sightings? Are people still looking for "young" Elvis?

Oh. And Jim Morrison. It's not his face that we should be looking at. Wink. Wink. Nudge. Nudge.
