Too Bad,...

...So sad:

As a child, Prince William dreamed of being an astronaut — or a fire breather

"When he was a child, Prince William dreamed about becoming an astronaut or a policeman.

But as he grew into adulthood, he realized he would have to settle for becoming King of England instead."

Rumour Has It...

...that the first day of fall is happening tomorrow, but I already knew that. Yesterday afternoon, while sitting on my front steps, I saw a big flock of geese fly by in V formation, heading south-east. They were probably looking for some poor farmer's field to land in, where they could feast on swathed grain before making the next leg of their journey. Anyway, geese in V formation is as sure a sign of spring as the cackling of crows is of spring. The birds know.

Also sighted from my front steps are kids at school. I am amused when the recess bell rings and kids come streaming out of the school, running as fast as their little legs will carry them, to see who can get to the playground equipment first. The really funny thing is, when the bell rings to end recess they run just as fast to get back into school. You wouldn't catch me doing that when I was that age.

Boys Will Be Boys...

...but this one takes the cake!

Firefighters rescue Calgarian teen stuck in washing machine
"The machine still works and the boy was not injured. “He was quite emphatic that he didn’t want his mother to find out,” said Molineaux."
I'll bet. The rest of Canada, does though. Hehehehehehe! And now, thanks to your friendly neighbourhood stubble jumping redneck, this incident will go down in history, so there will be a record of his prank for years to come.

It's a Sign of the Times

How many of you have ever received a wedding invitation via email? I got my first such animal this morning, from my daughter. Perhaps that's because they had invitations all printed up and stuff and then the venue at which the wedding was supposed to be got sold and went private.

Although the various costs which had already been incurred, such as the printed invitations and the down payment on renting the venue, were reimbursed by the previous owner, my favourite girl decided to send out an email invitation to a select group instead of freshly printed new invites. My, how things have changed.

Must be hard to plan a wedding in British Columbia when you live in Ft. McMurray, Alberta and many of the invitees live in Saskatchewan. Sometimes eloping has it's advantages.

Anyhow, I know where I'll be on July 21st. Kelowna, here I come! Gonna see the grand-kiddies, too!! EEEEHHHAAAAAWW!

A little bit of historical trivia: about 32 years ago this daughter of mine, the bride to be, first stood up all by herself, in the middle of a playpen in a hotel room in Revelstoke, BC, which is not that far from Kelowna. Of course, there are no straight lines from point A to point B in the British Columbia interior. All there are is scary, narrow, winding, mountain hugging roads with a steep drop off the side of the road. And I get really claustrophobic in the mountains. But Kelowna is beautiful. Like my daughter, and she comes by it honestly. Ahem. Hem.

Okay. Just Because...

...it was two fourteen year old kids that did this, doesn't mean squat. (Yeah, sure. Seriously, I am enthralled.) Click on "Scale of the Universe 2" link (in the second paragraph of the article) for an awe inspiring, trippy experience.

Oh, and I hope I'm not being raaaaaaacist here, but you'll notice the kid who figures prominently appears to be of Chinese ancestry (his name is Huang). And remember the Lego Man's space trip, put together by a couple of Toronto kids? The main spokesperson of those two also has a Chinese name (Ho). There's something to be said about the Chinese and their philosophy and outlook (especially as it pertains to getting their kids through school and encouraging excellence, and high achievement). More power to them. I hope we learn something from them.

Gotta Love My Grand Daughter

Her mother relates to me on Facebook an interaction with said little girl (3 years, 9 months old):

Jasmine (mommy): "is so madly in love with her baby girl. the things that comes out of her mouth!"

Me:  Like what?

Jasmine (mommy):"Oh like saying " you can say that again" in perfect context. I never say that. And she was being real squirmy on the couch one night, so I asked her "what do you need, sydney?", and she came over to me and said "love" then cuddled up to me and fell asleep. Or we were leaving the mall the other evening and it was already dark, so she says "it's already dark. That sucks!""

Me: "Wait tell she start rattling off a string of cuss words that you never say in front of her!"

Jasmine (mommy): " Oh she's already mentioned the "s" word a couple of times. We had the "grown ups say bad words sometimes" talk. Now she's saying all sorts of words asking if they're bad words. She's something'."

LOL!!! Nothing like planning ahead! Smart girl.

Man, He Was Just Hungry!

You can't get fresh fruits and vegetables this time of year in the Alaskan wilderness:

And he's just a baby!

It's gotta be Harper's fault. Or maybe Bush's.

Boys Hanging Out

That's Kaden in the orange and blue stripes. He's a mere 14.5 lbs after only seven weeks of being on this planet, so don't mess with him. He was a big bruiser when he came into the world, too!

The scrawny little fellow in the yellow is Kaden's cousin, Logan. This was at Logan's house, so he's entitled to loaf about.

The pink blanket is a hand-me-down from Logan's big sister, Sydney.

And here's both big sisters, posing as Best Friends Forever. Cassidy, Kaden's big sister, is the one with the colourful shirt. She has her arm around Sydney, the senior member of that generation of the clan. Apparently they get along famously.

And eeewwwe, Logan, what did you do?
