State TV presenter says cutting of broadcast part of "Brotherhoodization"

"After holding a burial shroud on-air on her Sunday evening show to protest the Muslim Brotherhood, state media presenter Hala Fahmy said state TV cut the transmission of her program.

Fahmy told Egypt Independent that the incident is a part of what she described as the “Brotherhoodization of the media.”

Fahmy pointed to the television coverage of Saturday’s demonstration in front of Cairo University as evidence, saying that both satellite and terrestrial channels spent hours covering the protests in support of President Mohamed Morsy’s recent constitutional declaration, in contrast to the amount of airtime these channels have given anti-Morsy protests in Tahrir Square over the last week."

Further to the "faggot" kerfuffle I wrote about here, I guess complaining gets results - sorta.

It seems the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission) has received 250 letters complaining about the CBSC (Canadian Broadcast Standards Council) decision.

"Artists were among those who questioned the song's ban, including well-known gay Canadians such as Scott Thompson from comedy troupe Kids in the Hall.

“Shakespeare would be rolling over in his g-word,” Thompson told QMI Agency. Rick Mercer, host of CBC’s Rick Mercer Report, said, “The song doesn’t offend me, because it’s all about context, and it’s a character line spoken by an ignorant person who is jealous of a glam rock 'n' roll star.”"

The really precious part of it is many of the letter writers confused the CRTC with the CBSC. The CRTC is a government created agency charged with regulating the broadcasting and telecommunications industry. The CBSC, the body that made the decision to ban the Dire Straits song Money for Nothing, is a voluntary organization, consisting of private broadcasters which sets standards for its members.

It's good to see the CRTC was perceived to be the agency that censors and that they were forced to read a massive pile of letters complaining about censorship, because the CRTC is indeed in the business of making decisions about what Canadians can and cannot be allowed to consume. In any case, the CRTC wants the CBSC to review its decision!!! There is hope yet!

By golly, one more notch in the conservatives' cane, this one. Sooner or later, the Liberals and Dippers will understand a) what censorship is and b) what conservatives are really all about - freedom and getting government out of our faces.

So, what was my initial gut reaction to this video? Total sympathy to the actor's position.

It's funny, or maybe not funny, but I get the same feeling every time I visit a CBC website where comments are allowed. The vast majority of commenters are uber-liberal elites who look down their noses at those who hold contrary views, yet the vilest comments, those that come the closest to visceral hatred and bigotry, are invariably from the uber-liberals and they never fail to reveal complete and utter ignorance of the positions of those whom they oppose. I'm sure I've said this before, but the big bogeyman in the sky with the white beard that speaks with a booming voice and who sends lightning bolts down to earth to punish sinners, is for children. I suspect most people who triumphantly declare themselves to be atheists are rejecting this version and haven't bothered to dig any deeper into the mystery. In other words, their spiritual development is stunted in adolescence. I sincerely hope they will some day break free and travel the rest of the way into a mature understanding of what we can barely describe and that which we and cannot comprehend, but which we know to be true.

I've never understood how a supposed democracy could survive with an agency that decides for us what we get to watch on TV.

Of course, the leftards of the world are always afraid of competing ideas. After all, if all you've ever been exposed to is rabid anti-Americanism from the CBC, and years of libtard policy development, you might not realize how Canadians got the reputation we have with some Americans. How many of you remember Chretien's infamous remarks in the days following 9/11, asshole that he was. Chretien's words did not go unnoticed, not even by many Canucks.

As you can see, I've made some small, because they aren't big burning issues with me, but I do have definite opinions on them that very likely differ from those of my fellow countrymen and women who inhabit Caplin's area on the spectrum.

I've made some very large, because they are very large, burning issues for me.

Some of them are struck out, because I couldn't care less about them, although I did hesitate a bit on the word "gay".  My position on that is explained here.

Others are just regular sized print, because they are issues, but not nearly as hot as the big ones. You'll notice the environment is there. I do my bit to keep my environs clean. I keep a handle on consumption of unnecessary things. I live simply. Walk when I can. Make almost all my food from scratch, etc.. (No, I don't make my own bread.  I've tried it and believe me, the results were not good.)  But I do buy my groceries at the grocery store and I don't care where it's grown, only that it's fresh and nutritious.

I recycle everything that can be recycled in my community and I have that in mind when buy things that are packaged. I used to have canvas bags that I consistently forgot to take with me when I went to the grocery store, but I've lost them somewhere along the way.

I don't buy into this AGW nonsense, and apparently I've been ahead of the curve, as far as that's concerned.

But Gerry, you missed one or two that are very, very important to me, in inverse proportion to what the NDP seem to think of them.  One is fraud in science (Climategate) and the need to prosecute those who have committed it and the other is the global issue of stealth jihad, which too many of our politicians like to pretend isn't even happening.

Underlying most of this is a strong and passionate belief that Canada needs to enforce our right to free speech as guaranteed not only in our Constitution's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but in the Bill of Rights. I want the various human rights gestapos in this country disbanded, or at the very least, Section 13.1 and any similar clauses in the provincial laws wiped out.  I am pleased there is a case heading toward the Supreme Court that may strike down the gag on free speech.  If it isn't struck down, we must lobby hard to get the law(s) changed through our parliament and provincial legislatures and we must speak as loudly and as frequently as possible in a manner that is politically incorrect, so that the damage done by NDP/Liberal hacks like Caplan will be repaired.  And that includes a full refund of the costs borne by victims of these wretched state sanctioned abominations which have sought to punish citizens for holding an unpopular or ill-informed opinions.

Oh. And I wouldn't mind having our armed forces better funded and equipped and I'd be willing to pay my own way in medical services such as regular visits to the family physician, if that would help with the funding.

Anyway, the whole point of this rant is to suggest that Gerry Caplan's definition will suit no-one to a T.  And at the risk of hypocrisy, I think his attempt to pigeon-hole is typical of NDPers in this country.  (Yanks, that would be equivalent to the fringe element of your Democrats.)  I am a conservative, but I don't fit Caplan's mold.
