Irony Of Ironies

On CJME radio's website right now, two headlines appear. The first says: "Search resumes for those missing  in Texas flood waters".  Immediately below that is the headline: "City of Regina asks people to conserve water".

The NDP...

...still out of touch with Saskatchewanians:

Saskatchewan government fails to tackle climate change in provincial budget

"Environment critic Cathy Sproule said budget cuts in the last several years have shown the government's lack of action.

"
Climate-change deniers exist and ... that's something that is disappointing when we see that kind of attitude within our government," said Sproule.

The NDP will have "a lot more questions" if Eyre is elected in Saskatoon Stonebridge-Dakota in the next election, she said."
[---]
"We have the highest per-capita emissions in the country, which is embarrassing."
[--]
"Eyre noted in her column that there have been several extreme weather events in history — from extensive flooding in Saskatchewan in 1974 to tornadoes in the mid-western United States in the 1930s.

"Could it be the weather's always been a bit wacky and prone to periods of extremes?" she wrote. "Ontario may have roasted last summer and a 40 C day there last week inevitability made the evening news. But the province has always been prone to high heat."
Will it ever end??

Inneresting...

...The G8 Summit came and went and I didn't hear a thing about protestors. Maybe that's 'cause I don't have TV any more. Since the journalists are, for the most part, locked out of the summit during regular sessions, all they can do is provide free advertizing for the rabble that collects outside. I'm far more interested in what's happening in the inner sanctum and the rabble can just go get a life, as far as I'm concerned. Or maybe they have. Or, maybe it's because we had real things to be worried about.

Back To The Alberta Floods

I heard on the radio this afternoon that scuba diving rescue workers were searching for bodies inside some of the inundated buildings in Calgary. They hadn't found any drowned people, but they have found many dead pets. :(

Climate Change

Okay. I've had enough change for now. Rain. Rain. Rain. Rain. Every frikken day for the past two weeks.

I've noticed my neighbour has some lumber laying beside his house. I expect to see him building an ark soon.

The weeds in my flower beds are ten feet tall. I'll have to take an ax to them, when (if) it stops raining.

I must be a farmer's daughter. Farm folk are known to complain about the weather all the time.

Speaking of which, I saw my farming cousin in the drug store just a while ago. He got his crops in before this rain started. He'll be happy about the timing and the amount, I think.

I wonder if my neighbour knows what a cubit is?

As I Sit Here Shivering....

...(they turned the boilers off in my apartment building about three weeks ago and it's bloody cold here today), there's startling news:

Sea levels are not rising.

Well okay. That's a lie. Sea levels have risen a full 0.83 inches since the turn of the century.
"The NASA-funded group claims glacial melt is removing weight that had been pressing down on land masses, which in turn is causing land mass to rise. This welcome news mitigates sea-level rise from melting glacial ice, meaning sea level will rise less than previously thought. However, it is very inconvenient for alarmist sea level predictions. Therefore, instead of reporting the amount by which sea level is rising in the real world, the Sea Level Research Group has begun adding 0.3 millimeters per year of fictitious sea level rise to “compensate” for rising land mass.

The extra 0.3 millimeters of fictitious sea level rise will add up to 1.2 inches over the course of the 21st century. While this is not monumental in and of itself, it will allow alarmists to paint a dramatically different picture of sea level rise than is occurring in the real world. For example, the current pace of 8 inches of sea level rise for the present century is essentially no different than the 7 inches of sea level rise that occurred last century. However, with an artificially enhanced 9.2 inches of sea level rise, alarmists can claim sea level is rising 31 percent faster than it did last century."
I'll betcha none of them predicted the deluge would actually occur in Manitoba, though. That's a long way from the sea.
