Wishful Thinking For July 17, 2013

I hope this lawsuit turns out to be the 21st century's version of the Scopes trial. Especially the suit against the media. Without the lamestream media, folks like Al Sharpton would not have a soapbox upon which to stand while they spew their hatred.

But then again, I could be in one of my Pollyanne-ish modes.

Way Over On The Periphery...

...I've sort of been keeping an eye on the election campaign in Quebec.  This one is a beaut:

Parti Québécois says it’s serious about Quebec sovereignty, but no rush on referendum

Perhaps, if she wins, this would be a good time for the ROC to boot them out, along with their share of the debt.

And Who Didn't See This Coming?

Heads will roll. Lawyers will get rich off of grieving people. And dead people under piles of rubble will still be dead.

What is Canada Famous For?

Why, drunkards in the back seat of cop cars who can sing Bohemian Rhapsody, the whole thing, without prompting, that's what. It's in the news, on Facebook, YouTube, all over the place. And not just in Canada.

Here's a bit about our most famous drunk:

Bohemian Rhapsody in cop cruiser

It was bad enough that he was skunky-drunk, but he was downright stupid, too.

The "Bohemian Rhapsody" Dude Is An Unemployed Home Brewer Who Was Picked Up For DUI
"The video got out because Wilkinson, who is unemployed, decided to defend himself against the charges (of course), and the RCMP gave it to him as part of the case's discovery process. Wilkinson, in turn, did what any serious legal mind would do to prepare his defense: He uploaded the clip to YouTube to amuse his friends."
Unemployed!!?? In Alberta???!!!! ROTFLMAO!! This guy is one dumb fuck. Pardon my language, but there just doesn't seem to be a better way to describe him.

Meet The Talented Canadian Arrestee Who Belted Out "Bohemian Rhapsody" In The Back Of A Police Cruiser
"Before launching into “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Wilkinson, who was not handcuffed, lectured a RCMP officer, claiming that he was not intoxicated. “You’re actually an ignorant fucking cunt. So fuck you buddy,” Wilkinson told the cop, who had earlier pulled over his truck.

An RCMP spokesperson told TSG that the police footage was provided to Wilkinson in the course of discovery in his criminal case, which is pending. In a February Facebook post, Wilkinson reported that he was “seeking council for an impaired driving” charge, adding, “Got the DVD.” Wilkinson told TSG that he was convicted of mischief when he was 18, but that the charge was later expunged from his record.

In late-January, Wilkinson posted a Facebook photo showing the exterior of the Provincial Court of Alberta, along with the comment, “I only have like $1000. I am in trouble with police.” A home brewer, Wilkinson noted in a post last month that he was “solving the worlds problems, one beer at a time.”

Wilkinson's YouTube page includes a video chronicling his 2004 dismissal from the Vancouver Film School, as well as clips showing him twice getting punched in the face by a friend."

Poor Edson. Edson is a small town roughly half way between the City of Edmonton and the mountain resort-town of Jasper. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. Other than the bedroom communities just West of Edmonton, there is nothing but dense forest for miles and miles and miles between Edmonton and Jasper. Edson is one of two small single-industry towns on the road. The trip from Edmonton to Jasper takes about six hours and has to be one of the most boring drives in the whole province. I'm sure no one, other than Albertans and a handful of other Canucks, had ever heard of the town before this yahoo's video went viral.

Yesterday...

...Brad Wall's government brought down their budget and it included ending a subsidy for the "Arts Community". Today, the "Arts-Entitled-to-My-Entitlements-Community" is up in arms. Listening to them howl and whine is great entertainment in and of itself.

Thank you Brad Wall!

Good Luck With That...

...Cissy:
"Whitney Houston's troubled daughter is now under the watchful eye of her grandmother Cissy, who is determined not to lose the 18-year-old the way she lost the drug-addled diva."
[---]
Cissy Houston “couldn’t do nothing with Whitney and the hangers-on, moochers and enablers that sucked the life out of her,” the second source continued. But “she has the reins of this now.”
[---]
"Bobbi Kristina was found doing drugs after her mom’s glorious sendoff Saturday, The Daily Beast reported — an account Whitney Houston’s camp denied.

An aspiring singer like her mom, Bobbi Kristina is the daughter Whitney Houston had with R&B has-been Bobby Brown. She has been tied to drug use before.

With both parents battling their own demons, she never got the tough love a child needs sometimes, the second source added.”
[---]
"There were new reports that family members, including Brown, want Bobbi Kristina in rehab. Fritzo said she had not entered a treatment program.

One thing is certain: Bobbi Kristina will likely never hurt for money. Whitney Houston reportedly made $1 million from the upcoming movie “Sparkle,” and her albums have done big business on iTunes and Amazon since her death.
[---]
"The family is also now licensing footage from Houston’s funeral to various media outlets. Bobbi Kristina is believed to be her mom’s primary heir. Meanwhile, in Beverly Hills, some of Whitney Houston’s dazzling jewels and beautiful gowns will be up for auction next month.

A trove of mementos, including one of Houston’s black velvet dresses and the earrings she wore in “The Bodyguard,” will form part of the long-planned celebrity sale at Julien’s auctionhouse.

“Her items can increase 10, 20 even 30 times compared to their previous value prior to her death. These items become part of history really,” said auctionhouse owner Darren Julien."
The vultures are circling. Or, to put it another way, "the hangers-on, moochers and enablers that sucked the life out of her" are circling.
