BWHAHAHAHA!

Earth Hour 2015 a Canada-wide failure -- even David Suzuki kept his lights on

And I even forgot it was on. Could have turned a few more lights on.

Can Hardly Wait

Earth Hour is fast approaching, and I have plans. I, as usual, will turn on every electrical appliance, every lamp and every ceiling fixure in the house for the hour. I will, if I really, feel like it, turn my car on and leave the garage door open. Might bake some cookies during the hour so I can enjoy something sweet. If anyone has any other ideas, please share. The only thing I won't do is open the frig and freezer compartment, cause I don't want my food to spoil. We'll see if the earth notices.

Oh, and I might leave the doors open to let some fresh air (cold fresh air, that is).

Earth Hour based on a myth
"Earth Hour 2015 demonstrates how radical climate activists are ruining the credibility of the environmental movement. Rather than concentrating on sensible objectives we can accomplish such as reducing real air, land and water pollution, protecting species at risk, and conserving scarce resources, Earth Hour focuses mainly on the impossible: ‘stopping climate change.’

In the Earth Hour 2015 Official Video, we are told:

“Earth Hour is a way for the citizens of the world to send clear message they want action on climate change” (UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon).

“If we don’t do anything about climate change immediately, we will have lost the chance to do it” (actor Mark Ruffalo).

“We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it.” (President Barack Obama).

This is nonsense, of course. Earth’s climate has been changing since the formation of the atmosphere billions of years ago and it will continue to change no matter what we do. Societies which did not adapt to variations in climate died out long ago, a good example being the once prosperous Greenland Viking colonies which perished when the Medieval Warm Period ended in the mid-14th century. Even today, indigenous populations in the Arctic and the Sahel region of Africa experience severe hardship due in part to natural climate change.

Organizers expect us to believe that natural climate drivers such as ocean currents, cloud cover, solar variations, changes in orbital parameters, etc., phenomena that led to multi-million year ice ages and ‘hot house’ epochs when Earth was entirely ice free, are now dwarfed by the impact of man. Carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of coal, oil and natural gas is taking us to a global warming catastrophe, Earth Hour spokespeople maintain. The fact that ‘global temperature’ has remained flat for 18 years while atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen 10% has no impact on their narrative.

Scientific studies summarized by the reports of the Nongovernment International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) demonstrate that the evidence for dangerous human-caused climate change remains weak. NIPCC Lead Author/Editor Professor Bob Carter, former Head of the Department of Earth Sciences at James Cook University in Australia, explains, “Science has yet to provide unambiguous evidence that problematic, or even measurable, human-caused global warming is occurring. The hypothesis of dangerous man-made climate change is based solely on computerized models that have repeatedly failed in practice in the real world.”"

I intend to do what I do every year for Earth Hour; turn on every electrical devise in the house and perhaps outside as well.

In Honour Of Earth Hour

I'm still planning what I'll do tomorrow between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm, but you can be sure it will involve plenty of electricity. Every light and every appliance possible will be maxed out. I might take the car for a spin as well.

I Darn Near Forgot...

...but it looks like Earth Hour is nearly upon us again. I was going to do some baking today, but maybe I should wait until Saturday evening.

You Win Some...

...you lose some.

My guy lost. ;-(

But in other news, this just goes to show that environuts are, well, nuts, not to mention latte sipping fools.  Hope you enjoyed your hour in the dark. I mean, really, what does a professor of sociology and environmental science know outside of leftie ideology. I guess the efficacy of an accusation of raaaaaacism is wearing a little thin. Now it has to be "deniiiiier", 24/7. Yawn.

If it wasn't for all those big neon signs and billboards, I'll bet you even Toronto would have shown an increase or at the very least, no decrease, in power consumption over the much over-exalted Earth Hour.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

I just heard on my favourite radio station that Saskatchewanites used 10% more energy yesterday than they used the previous year's Earth Day! Way to go Saskies!!

Even though this radio station is mostly talk radio of the right wing variety, they were interviewing some idiot from SaskEnergy, who tried to convince us that people had more electrically powered conveniences in their possession than they did last year and that's the reason. What a farce!

There's only two possible explanations for the 10% increase, and it's probably a combination of both, and those are 1) our population grew {which it did, thanks largely to the energy sector} and 2) we're on to you. Hah,hah!

Last year I did my duty and during Earth Hour I turned on every possible electric appliance that I could for the whole hour. Even did some baking, using my electric mixer, of course. This year, I just shrugged my shoulders and ignored the event. I suspect most Saskatchewanites did the same. Borrrrrrrring.

And as if SaskEnergy isn't laughing all the way to the bank.

Hah! Hah! Hah!

All hail Human Achievement Hour!!!

PS: This ain't no April Fools joke. It's also been extremely warm for this time of year. I wonder if the air conditioners were on?

Earth Hour

POST SCRIPT ANALYSIS inserted in orange text below:
==================
Video update below.
========Original Starts Here in Black Type==========
...is coming up and I'm making plans. So far, this is what I'm planning to do for Mother Earth, or Gaia, or whatever:

1) Turn the heat up (might have to open some windows to keep from sweltering, but that's okay); (Didn't do that since it takes an hour for the place to warm up or cool down.  Good thing, too, cause I was pooped after I got everything done.)
2) Turn all the lights on; (Yup. Even went to bed forgetting to turn off the lights at the top of my bookshelf.)
3) Recharge my cell phone, whether it needs it or not; (Yup. Done as planned.)
4) Turn on the oven and bake a cake, cause that requires using my electric mixer; (Yup. Done. Gingerbread. Haven't made that in ions.  Have to buy some apples today, and make some applesauce from scratch, as I recall applesauce goes really well with gingerbread, and making it from scratch has the added distinction of transferring the use of electricity from the food processing company that makes the canned stuff to my kitchen, so I can take personal responsibility at the same time as illustrating that going back to grandmother's day still means using electricity and/or fossil fuel.)
5) Bake some cookies, too (Yup. Ones with coconut in them to ensure I contributed to the "eat imports rather than local" cause.), and maybe a big batch of lasagna and/or chili (might as well do both, so I can have both the oven and a burner on); (Did the chili thing.  Got to freeze it today, too. More power consumption, just for the frivolous sake of preventing spoilage and possible food poisoning, silly me! Oh and the tomatoes and canned chili beans also contributed to the "eat imports" cause. How ungreen of me!!)
6) Do the laundry, and, if anything needs ironing, get at it right away; (Did that. No ironing required, so there's two small appliances - the iron and my blender - that were not pressed into use in the celebration of Earth Two Hours, a failure on my part, for sure, but I just couldn't think of what I could do with the blender during Earth Two Hours. If I had ice cream, I could have made a milk shake, I guess.  Oh well.)
7) Vacuum the floors that have carpets; (Yup. Not much to do, though, so I didn't really consume much electricity.)

..and just for the helluvit...

8) Turn on the hot water taps full bore so the boiler in the building will have to replace what I've consumed; (Didn't do that. My bad. But I did have a long leisurely shower after I was done in the kitchen, and did up the dishes in hot water, too.)
9) After all that work, I'll have to have a shower (see above), of course, and for sure, boil some water for a cup of tea. (Done. Hot tea after a busy stretch of work is so nice. Plus, it's another import, so that's good.)

Oh, and might just plug in the car, whether it's cold or not. (Did that earlier in the day, so it was plugged in for several hours. In fact it's still plugged in.)

That should be enough, probably more than enough, for only an hour, but I'd happily extend my celebration of Earth Hour as long as needed, even to Earth Hours. (All told, it took me close to two hours.  I wonder how long it would have taken without electricity. Drying those clothes would have been a time killer, and I'm not sure how I would get them ironed - or where I'd hang them to dry - a lot of retrofitting needed to go extreme green plus I don't have those old fashioned interchangeable irons with a wood stove to heat them on.)

I'm taking suggestions, if anyone can think of what else I could do. Every little bit helps, you know.  Gaia deserves it.

(I'm gonna leave this one on top and file a report the day after.)
