"Having dispensed with Canada’s first list of countries from which refugee claims will be fast-tracked, immigration officials must now wrestle with the next one.[---]
In some ways, it will likely be a much more difficult list to compile.
The first batch of the so-called “designated countries of origin” list, unveiled Friday, includes 25 European Union member states, the United States and Croatia.
They are all countries the government has declared as being generally safe and therefore unlikely to produce real refugee claimants."
"The list was drawn up by first examining which countries produce the highest rates of failed claimants — claims that are abandoned, withdrawn or rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board.That sound you hear is the howling of leftards. I know it's an annoying, cloying sound, but just get some earplugs, cause the big rollback of Libtardism has a ways to go yet.
Countries with a failure rate of 75 per cent or better are candidates for the list.
In Hungary’s case, for example, 93 per cent of the 3,249 claims finalized in the first nine months of this year were rejected. Croatia saw 92 per cent of claims rejected; the Slovak Republic, 98 per cent. All three are on the list."

"Twenty three years ago, Devinder Shory left India for what he thought would be a brighter future in Canada.[---]
He couldn't possibly have known how bright it would be."
"On Sunday, Shory - now the representative of the 150,000 good people of Calgary Northeast in the House of Commons - returned to India for the second time in the company of his adopted country's prime minister."[---]
"Shory was born and grew up in the northwestern Indian province of Punjab near Chandigarh, a city Harper will visit later in the week. He came to Canada when his parents arranged for him to marry a bride - Neetu - in Montreal.[---]
"The only thing I knew (about Canada) is that it's a good country, a peaceful country," Shory said.
In India, Shory had been a lawyer but his legal credentials were not recognized in Canada.
He and Neetu started their lives together in Montreal before moving to B.C. and finally to Calgary.
Shory worked hard, saved some money, and invested in the B.C. housing market. Then the market crashed. Shory lost it all.
He and Neetu picked themselves up and, while raising a young family, Shory ran a video store, drove a cab, unloaded linen trucks in a warehouse, all the while studying Canada's legal system so he could become a lawyer here, something he finally achieved in 1998, nearly a decade after his arrival."
"Jason Kenney, now immigration minister, became the party's point man in Canada's cultural communities, earning the nickname Minister Curry-in-a-Hurry.Unless, of course, you're a leftard, in which case you're programmed to utter the word "raaaaacist" every five minutes.
Conservative outreach efforts took time to take hold but are now paying off with electoral success.
Conservatives now hold some of Canada's most ethnically diverse ridings in Calgary, in the suburban ring around Toronto and in Vancouver."

"The government of Canada is looking at ways to streamline its immigration system in order to eliminate a backlog of more than a million applicants.[---]
Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said on Wednesday the government was considering a wide range of options to create a more nimble immigration system better able to meet employers' needs for skilled labor.
"The doors are always going to be open. We're planning on continuing to receive over a quarter of a million immigrants per year," he said. "The question is how do we select those who are most likely to succeed and do so on a fast basis.""
"One idea is to have provinces go through the backlog of applicants and pick out people with the qualifications companies need, such as engineers in the oil business.Long, long overdue, that. It happened to my ex way back in 1967. He had to undergo a long and involved process to have his engineering credentials evaluated, and eventually had to go back to school at the U of S in order to meet the requirements for recognition of his credentials as a professional engineer. This proposal beats that, hands down, and it sure beats having highly qualified individuals driving taxi-cabs, when jobs for which they may be qualified, go unfulfilled.
"It's about ... matching the immigrants with the jobs rather than just pushing them into the general labor market to sink or swim," Kenney said.
Canada remains relatively open to immigrants, but many newcomers complain it is difficult to get their education and professional qualifications recognized, forcing them to retrain or find work in a different, often unskilled, field.
Kenney said he was considering requiring prospective immigrants who already have credentials to get a pre-assessment from professional associations in Canada of their chances of having their credentials recognized."
"Canada will consider legislating away its massive backlog of immigration applications and allowing provinces to cherry-pick from one big pool of would-be newcomers in a bid to trans-form Canada's immigration system into one that's driven by the economy, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said Wednesday.That's the way it used to be, decades ago.
In a speech to business leaders at an Economic Club of Canada luncheon, Kenney promised "transformational change" to immigration that emphasizes the need for skilled newcomers who can fill gaps in the country's labour market."

"The Harper government is considering changes to the citizenship rules to target so-called birth tourism — where a foreign national comes to Canada to give birth so the baby can get Canadian citizenship.Bit by bit, we're turning back the Liberal Party legacy. And you wonder why the Robocalls thing gets no traction. It's quite simple. There's too much work to do and this robocalls thing just smacks of sour grapes. When the opponents are reduced to those lame arguments, as illustrated by the "critics", you know we're on the right path.
But critics say closing the loophole will deter bona fide immigrants and harm the economy in the long run."

"Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Friday that starting immediately, spouses will have to wait five years from the day they are granted permanent residence status in Canada before they can sponsor a new spouse.
The move is meant to prevent people from fraudulently marrying Canadians for the purposes of immigration only to leave them and then sponsor a new partner while their Canadian spouse is still financially responsible for them for three years.
"I held town hall meetings across the country to hear from victims of marriage fraud," said Kenney, who made the announcement in Brampton, Ont., just west of Toronto.
"In addition to the heartbreak and pain that came from being lied to and deceived, these people were angry. They felt they had been used as a way to get to Canada. We're taking action because immigration to Canada should not be built upon deceit."
The move comes less than two years after the Conservatives promised to tackle marriage fraud. In the fall of 2010, the government held online consultations to gather public opinion and ideas on how to address the issue."And that's not the only thing he's done:
"Immigration Minister Jason Kenney raised the spectre Thursday of simmering social divisions over immigration in Europe and the U.S. to defend a plan to bring in immigrants who will bolster the economy.[---]
Kenney, in a speech in Toronto, said he plans to adjust the points system for skilled workers to put greater emphasis on youth with "high quality credentials," and on the ability of applicants to speak either English or French."
""If we can improve the economic outcomes of immigrants, debates over the degree of their social integration would virtually disappear. That's because I strongly believe that economic integration is the best path to social integration," he said."[---]
""We don't have to look very far to see what happens when that integrity is undermined," he said.In the meantime, what's that they say about the luck of the Irish?
"It's happened across Europe and even to some extent in the United States, where public support for the entire immigration system has fallen after widespread illegal migration and consequent abuse of public resources have gone unchecked.""

"Immigration Minister Jason Kenney told Sun News Network on Thursday one of the biggest changes will be to "invite businesses to go overseas, recruit the people who they think will work well in their companies, give them those job offers, and then we'll bring them in (to Canada) on a super-fast basis."And there's not a damn thing the Libs and Dippers can do about it.
But the Tories will also change the system that grades prospective immigrants on their language and work skills, among other factors, to determine whether they'll be allowed to come live in Canada.
"In 2012, we will be reforming our federal points system, called our Skilled Worker Program, to attract those people who we know, based on research, are most likely to succeed - younger immigrants, people with pre-arranged jobs in Canada, folks with higher levels of income," said Kenney."

"“I think my predecessors were terrified that cracking down on the abuse of the asylum system would be misunderstood by new Canadians as being anti-immigrant, or saying that barbaric practices or that ancient hatreds and conflicts are not welcome in Canada would somehow be negatively perceived, or that cracking down on fake immigration marriages and crooked immigration consultants would somehow be misconstrued as being anti immigrant.”[---]
On the contrary. For the vast majority of immigrants who play by the rules to enter Canada legally, Kenney says they are the ones who insisted that it was time to force everyone to play by the rules. New legislation that’s expected to pass in the fall sitting of Parliament, will help address abuses of the system by unscrupulous human smugglers and those who abuse our asylum system to jump the queue.
“Our core message was very simple,” explained Kenney. “Vote your values. If you believe in entrepreneurialism, low taxes, a strong family unit, respect for tradition, respect for religious faith and you believe in democratic values, you’re probably a conservative.”"
"Canada will move toward more job nominee programs and limit family reunification, so elderly family members won’t immigrate here just in time to be a drain on our burdened medical system. That’s compassionate to Canadians who have paid taxes their entire working lives."AND.....1800 people are being stripped of their citizenship and will be deported because they became citizens through fraudulent means. But don't hold your breath. There's bound to be appeals.

"New Canadians are now being told explicitly that forced marriages aren't allowed, same-sex marriages are and newcomers from war-torn countries should leave their "violent, extreme, or hateful prejudices" at the door."According to Kenney's statement, the changes to the Discover Canada guide include:
- A new pullout box called Becoming Canadian which emphasizes that a newcomer has a responsibility to embrace Canadian democratic principles and that past experiences in warfare or conflict do not justify bringing violent, extreme or hateful prejudices to Canada;Wanna read up on it, go here.
- Recognition that gay and lesbian Canadians enjoy the full protection of and equal treatment under the law, including access to civil marriage;
- The addition of forced marriage among the practices that are not tolerated in Canada;
- Additions to the section on the War of 1812, which celebrates its bicentennial next year. The section has been expanded to include more context on the conflict and its importance in shaping Canada;
- A revamped Modern Canada section including new headings, more content about trade and economic growth, and more examples of Canada's outstanding cultural figures.
