Speaking Of Evolution

Arab pundit unites with Israel’s Netanyahu; calls Obama ‘one of the worst American presidents’

"Israel and Saudi Arabia are mortal enemies, but a columnist at a pro-government newspaper in Saudi Arabia this week praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a friend to peace in the Middle East and branded President Obama “one of the worst American presidents” over his negotiations with Iran."

Maybe he does deserve that Nobel Peace Prize, after all. /sarc

At Last...

...A decision I can agree with:

Nobel Peace Prize: Malala Yousafzai, Kailash Satyarthi win 2014 award

The list of Ig Nobel prizes for this year are pretty impressive, too:

2014.

This one is extremely noble:
Economics: ISTAT — the Italian government's National Institute of Statistics, for proudly taking the lead in fulfilling the European Union mandate for each country to increase the official size of its national economy by including revenues from prostitution, illegal drug sales, smuggling, and all other unlawful financial transactions between willing participants
Bunga. Bunga.

And this one too: Arctic Science:
Eigil Reimers and Sindre Eftestøl, for testing how reindeer react to seeing humans who are disguised as polar bears.

Luv It!!!!

Hope he wins, just to shove it in the noses of our resident leftards.
"August 29, 2014, TORONTO — With recent developments across the globe posing new and difficult challenges, only one leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has maintained the moral clarity needed to face them, says B’nai Brith Canada.

“Moral clarity has been lost across much of the world, with terror, hatred and antisemitism filling the void,” said Frank Dimant, CEO, B’nai Brith Canada. “Throughout, there has been one leader which has demonstrated international leadership and a clear understanding of the differences between those who would seek to do evil, and their victims. More than any other individual, he has consistently spoken out with resolve regarding the safety of people under threat — such as opposing Russian aggression and annexation of Ukrainian territory — and has worked to ensure that other world leaders truly understand threat of Islamic terrorism facing us today.

“In accordance with the rules of the Nobel Foundation it gives me great pleasure to nominate in my capacity as Professor of Modern Israel Studies at Canada Christian College, Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the Nobel Peace Prize in honour of the outstanding moral leadership he has demonstrated.”"
He certainly deserves it. Mind you, given the recent history of the Nobel committee's decisions I'm not holding my breath.

One Chance At Redemption

Malala Yousafzai addresses U.N. Youth Assembly

If this little girl actually wins the Nobel Peace Prize, I will actually have respect for the Nobel organization again, until the next time.

You Might Want To Wait...

Pakistan to hold historic polls on May 11

...until it actually happens.

Related. I so hope she wins the Nobel Peace Prize, and not just because she deserves it. The prize itself is in desperate need of redemption.

Round-Up

I'm not a big fan of little pop flash-in-the-pan starletdom, as personified by Justin Bieber, but there are creepy people who stalk these starlets. This is a story that is really, really creepy:

Justin Bieber: Two men accused in plot to murder pop star

Leave him alone. He's just a kid.

And speaking of kids, here's a really interesting article about Malala Yousufzai

Her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize has stirred some debate in Pakistan, which is good:
"The government seems to have moved a resolution in Parliament to declare Malala Yousufzai as daughter of the nation. Pakistan’s top dignitaries have also visited the UK, in recent days, to meet the young girl heroine whose name has also been proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize. Given the attention she has received lately from all over the world as appreciation for standing up for her right to education and that of other girls, there is also a possibility that she may even be seriously considered for the award. However, I am tempted to ask the question if it is a good idea in the first place.

I would also like to make it clear that I have endorsed her nomination with an open heart and my objection has got nothing to do with her but how we as a state and government, or even a society, tend to react to winning an award. There is a high probability that once we, as a state, bag the Nobel through Malala, our entire focus will shift on the prize rather than the problem behind it."
Maybe the reputation of Nobel Peace Prize can be redeemed at the same time, but I'm not holding my breath.

Last, but not least:

Plants grow in space despite lack of gravity

There are some advances in science that have great potential to be beneficial to humankind and Mother Gaia, but I fail to see what application this will have down here on earth where gravity sucks. But, you never know. I'm down with science for the sake of science.

Is The Pope Catholic?
