What You Might Not Have Known...

...about the recent election:
  • Marxist-Leninist Party is more popular than the Communists but they both suck (The M-L Party garnering 0.06901% versus the Communists' 0.01987% of the popular vote)
  • The Christian Heritage Party garnered more votes than both commie parties put together (0.13055%)
  • The Rhinoceros Party lives on, nosing out the Pirate Party by a narrow margin and the Radical Marijuana Party by almost two to one.  Do we have our priorities right, or what!
  • If the Animal Alliance/Environment Party had joined forces with their natural allies, the Rhinoceros Party, and had the both of them thrown their people behind the Greens, the Greens would have garnered 3.98% of the popular vote instead of 3.9%. Or we could round it off to make it look really good at 4% of the popular vote, but it still probably wouldn't be enough to get invited to the big televised debate next time around.
To carry on, even if you put the two commie parties in with the Greens, their standing would still be only 4.003% of the popular vote. Somehow, I don't think listening to Lizzie May (or whoever is leading the party four or five years from now) debate the big guys would persuade enough Canucks to put them at 4.1% or 4.2% or 4.3% or even put them at 4.004% or 4.005% or 4.006%.  Do you?

I guess this explains why so many Greenie Babies don't like the first-past-the-post system.  They want to get what they otherwise haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of earning.

4%, or 1 in 25. Let's think back to our school days. In an average class of around 25 kids, there was always one who was the class clown. Always doing or saying something silly or otherwise un-academic, never a serious student, he or she "grew up" to become an Eco-Warrior. Kind of predictable and in-character, when you think about it.
