Saskatchewan NDP calls for rent control
They did that waaaaaay back in the 1970s and the result was a disaster. No new rental properties were constructed (surprise, surprise). The total stock of rental housing gradually sunk. Older buildings fell into ruin, because their owners could not recoup their expenses and make a profit.
Apparently, the NDP have not caught on to the fact that the only way to control escalating rents charges is to foster a glut in rental accommodation. To do that, developers need to be confident the effort and investment they put into constructing new apartment buildings (which will eventually result in the glut) will pay off. When the government decrees what investors can charge, the tenant loses. Will they ever learn?

What you're saying is fundamental economics. You get more of what's economically encouraged and less of what's economically discouraged.
Of course, the Sask NDP, like hard lefties everywhere, is clueless of basic economics. "They know so much that isn't so", as Reagan so aptly summarized it.
What surprizes me (not really) is that the current crop of Saskatchewan Dippers seems to
a) have no knowledge of their own party's history, and
b) no knowledge of how economies work.
My ex was in the construction business when the earlier carnation of Dippers instituted rent controls. The construction of new apartment buildings came to a complete halt and he moved to Alberta to get away from the insanity of Dipperdumb.
