Sarkozy in the Lead

Sarkozy clips Hollande's poll lead

"Conservative French President Nicolas Sarkozy has caught up with his Socialist challenger in the first round of a presidential election next month and is whittling away his strong lead for the runoff in May, three polls showed on Tuesday.

An IPSOS Logica poll found Francois Hollande, vying to be France's first Socialist president since 1995, would win 28 percent of the vote in the April 22 first round, narrowly ahead of Sarkozy's 27.5 percent.

The poll, conducted at the end of last week shortly after police shot dead an Islamist gunman who had killed seven people, showed Hollande had shed half a percentage point in a week while Sarkozy had held his ground."
And I like what the writer of this article implies may be the reason.

But overall, I like the way the French conduct their elections. First of all, their president is elected once every five years (used to be seven), which is certainly better than having them every year or even more frequently, as was recently the case in Canada.

Moreover, they have run-off elections, should there be no clear winner the first time around. The parties at the bottom are dropped from the ballet and only the two top contenders go at it for the second round. The result, a clear winner with more than 50% of the vote.

Think of how that would have felt in Canada this past May 2nd. The Liberals would have been dropped from the ballet. That would have felt real nice. I wonder how their vote would have been spread?

Speaking of Canadian elections, the robocalls fun and games keeps on rolling. The Council of Canadians, (short for Council of Canadians Against Anything and Everything) a hotbed of seething, slithering leftists is demanding by-elections in some ridings. I'd love to see what would happen, if they get their way. I don't think Canadians are in the mood for such shenanigans. It just might bring the Conservative candidate back with an even bigger roar, and that would be very, very funny to watch.

BTW, this group is comprised of some of the same folks who fought tooth and nail to keep Sun TV from ever broadcasting in Canada.

In your faces, assholes.
