Nos so much a confession as an honest view of the extremely limited informative value of broadcast coverage to the voters.
His advice is actually a plea for voters in a democracy to act like active citizens, not passive subjects. Actively seek out political information via websites, critically watch youtube leaders' speeches...then actually THINK about what they have seen, heard, and read.
As Pericles said over 2,500 years ago to a group of apathetic Athenian citizens unwilling to come to the polis and vote, "Just because you're not interested in politics doesn't mean that politics aren't interested in you."
