Will Wonders Never Cease
"In a major obstacle for Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s desire to expand his powers, Turkish voters have stripped his party of its simple majority in parliament, and pro-Kurdish party is the biggest winner, according to preliminary election results.(So. Is it Turkish Spring or a temporary blip?)
With 99.9 per cent of the vote counted, Erdoğan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, the AKP, had the support of around 41 per cent of voters, state-run TRT television said.
The unexpected setback for AKP likely puts an end, to Erdoğan’s hopes of passing constitutional changes that would have greatly boosted the powers of his office, Instead, AKP will now have to seek a coalition partner to stay in power, with the nationalist MHP the most likely candidate."
