European Elites are Waking Up!!!

Looks like they have finally realized that if they don't respond to the Islamist threat, they might actually, gasp, lose an election:

Sarkozy defends raids on Islamists
"Elite Raid police units and DCRI domestic intelligence agents yesterday seized 16 men, three women and weapons in several cities, including Toulouse, where the extremist gunman Mohamed Merah was shot dead by police last week. In series of cold-blooded shootings Merah killed seven people, including three Jewish children. The arrests were made a day after the Franco-Algerian was buried outside Toulouse. Algerian authorities had refused to accept the corpse.

Speaking shortly after the raids, Mr Sarkozy said: "It's our duty to guarantee the security of the French people. We have no choice. It's absolutely indispensable.""
[---]
"Among those arrested was Mohammed Achamlane, the suspected leader of the Salafist group, which France's council of ministers outlawed last month citing "incitement to armed struggle". Three Kalashnikovs, a Glock pistol and a grenade were seized at his home.

With about 100 suspected Islamist radicals on a watch list, Mr Sarkozy warned there would be "other operations"."
Of course, the lefties aren't having any of it:
"Mr Sarkozy's invocation of the September 11 attacks was branded as "totally disproportionate" by far-Left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon."
Messieur Melechon, this is the political class trying to catch up to the people they proport to represent. I've noticed you still haven't clued in to that. I submit to you, therefore, that the left, which you represent, is dead. There will be no catching up for you and your ilk.

Hey, and did you all notice the article uses the word "far" in front of the names of both the right-leaning party and the left-leaning party. How often do you see that?! It's usually a descriptor reserved for right leaning political thought.

Yeah, Euro-presstitutes can't refer to a European conservative party without calling it "far right". A variant of the ad Hominem attack, it helps the avoid a rational discussion of what these "far right" parties are concerned about.

I guess from their perspective, the right is far. That's a reflection of their relative position on the political spectrum as much as anything else. They are a long, long way from the centre.
