Excellent column by James Delingpole! Enough evidence has been piling up for years to validate his point. The war, and it is a war, is the Eco-Loons versus Western Capitalism & Industrial Civilization. The Canadian Pipelines are but one battle in this war of Greens versus Western Civ.
Incidentally, I'm of an age to very clearly remember the original Pipeline Battle, back in the 1970s. That was the Alaskan North Slope Pipeline. The Greens used the same argument then, the "delicate" Alaskan environment would simply disintegrate if the pipeline were built. Melted permafrost tundra and pools of leaked petroleum from one end of Alask to the other. Also, the great migratory herds of millions of reindeer would perish, being unable to figure out how to go under, or jump over, the pipeline. They would then perish for lack of feeding grounds and being unable to go to one of their habitual areas where the herds' spring breeding season takes place.
After a political Battle Royale, the pipeline was built. Today, decades later, the tundra is fine, oil leaks have been almost nil**, the reindeer herds figured out -quelle surprise- how to walk under raised pipeline sections and how to jump over non-raised sections. The herds are actually larger today by several hundred thousand reindeer, than they were in the 70's.
Today, we're hearing the same tired strawman arguments against the Alberta-Texas and Alberta-BC Pipelines. Again, there's a complete lack of evidence to back up these strawman arguments. In fact, the tens of thousands of miles of networked N. American pipelines, run for many years now with few and far between problems, prove them wrong. Not that we hear this in the Green-loving, Capitalism-hating, Red States/Red Privinces-hating leftard MSM.
**(The one major exception being the Exxon Valdez tanker accident. That was caused not by the pipeline but by the management of the Exxon fleet being unwilling to take on the Maritime Union over firing a demonstrably dangerous tanker captain [with a history of alcoholism and a consequent pattern of derelictions of duty], BEFORE further problems. That corporate unwillingness and union intransigence cost Exxon approx. $4 billion, the cost of the successful cleanup.)
There was also a pipeline built through the North West Territories about the same time. It was a big boost to the nascent Indian Industry. NDPer, Thomas Berger, a lawyer and later Supreme Court Justice presided over hearings about it and all the same lame arguments were heard.
The pipeline was built, in any case, and, yes, today everything is just fine. Who knew Cariboo could just walk under an elevated pipeline???!!!!! Shocking!!!!
BTW, did you read the comments under Delingpole's article? Greenies are getting their clocks cleaned. A lot of truth being expressed in those opinions.
Just read through a good number of comments. There are some good ones from people with science or engineering degrees, succinctly shredding some of the so-called scientific premises of AGW.
I love how the Warmists say CO2, a plant food necessary for life for every plant, and therefore in the CO2-O2 cycle, all life, is a pollutant. I no longer believe these scientists and engineers, with graduate degrees, merely have AGW opinions. They HAVE to know that the whole thing is based on b*llsh*t "science". Just from staying awake in my high school science classes, I know enough science to know that some of the AGW claims are big lies, which violate fundamental laws of science. People with degrees in science and engineering disciplines HAVE to know better. Which makes the ones going along with the AGW scam, like NASA "Scientist" James Hanson, to be bought-and-paid-for whores.
My favorite comment was "I'd sooner trust a Greek government accountant than the pushers of Al Gore's big lie." Wow, that puts them pretty low on the evolutionary ladder! :-)

Indeed they are. At this point in the scam they are more concerned with their own continued livelihoods, I think. They've got themselves so deep into the doo-doo that their only concern now is survival and I don't think they're going to make it.
Eventually, governments are going to respond because their electorate are nipping at their ankles. When that happens, the AGW envirowacko/con artists will be hung out to dry.
I think the Canadian government has started to feel the pain in the ankle bit. It's great fun to watch the lefties howl and twist in the comments of some of our lamestream media websites. CBC fans are among the most tortured and agonized.
And speaking of pipelines, when I was a kid and Diefenbaker was PM there was a natural gas pipeline built across Canada that cut through my dad's farm.
Not too far from the house there is a station where every once in a while they would let some pressure off and it would make a horrible high pitched wail that could be heard for miles and miles.
I don't remember a single voice raised in objection to the building of that pipeline or to the noise produced during the occasional pressure release routine.
That was when watermelons didn't have a green rind. They were just red and weren't concerned about fossil fuel or global warming. Times have changed. They've grown a green shell.
