Here's what Leggett says on her website: "Our job is to make sure that everyone who wants to talk to us about this project has an opportunity to be heard," she says. "We'll take whatever time it takes to ensure that everybody's views are heard."
The world's Canada-bashers laughed, then signed up to testify. Almost 5,000 of them. Including Hugo Chavez's state-owned oil company, CITGO. Including foreigners from Uruguay to Louisiana to Italy to Austria.
Then something really crazy happened. To ensure all those foreigners have time to talk, Leggett announced she was adding an extra year to her review.
Instead of telling foreigners to butt out, Leggett told Canadian workers to lean on their shovels while she listens to people who don't live here, work here or have any connection here."

Not bizarre at all but entirely understandable in light of the leftist objective, stopping all new pipelines. Just connect the dots from "bizarre" to her act, delaying a decision and extending the comment period by a whole year. That's a whole year of no approval, no construction, only anti energy Eco-Warriors polemicizing and planning their next steps in doing all in their power to stop the pipeline.
The question is: will the Conservative government, the Canadian people allow these useful puppet Eco Warrior fanatics and foreign energy interests to stop the Canadian people from this project, manifestly in Canada's interest?
I just posted a new entry about the decline and relegation to obscurity of Central Canada's ruling elite.
I think they are feeling power slip away from the Toronto-Montreal corridor and emerge in the downtown office towers of Calgary. I'm sitting here metaphorically thumbing my nose at them, but they still have considerable influence, ironically by marshaling American money and power to do their dirty work. If you've got an hour to waste you might want to listen to the video at the first link.
This is just the sort of thing that could re-awaken Western separatism. I didn't have much respect for the yahoos who spearheaded that movement 20 to 30 years ago, but if separatist sentiments arise again in Western Canada, I'll be right in there like a dirty shirt. Sooo, Ms Leggett and her Central Canadian backers (who are responsible for leveraging the foreign funding) can go to you know where.
And another thing, American states are welcome to join us.
I often see commentors on American blogs commenting on the regional differences in Canada and how Western Canada should separate from Canada and join the US.
I beg to differ. If we separate from Central Canada, the American states can join us. We're the ones with the oil. I would think that would give us some leverage re. who, if anybody, should join whom. ;-)
