Hate Speech Law On The Chopping Block
"Canada's human rights commissions could soon be de-fanged.[---]
New legislation would repeal Section 13, the hate speech portion of Human Rights Act.
"Our government believes Section 13 is not an appropriate or effective means for combating hate propaganda. We believe the Criminal Code is the best vehicle to prosecute these crimes," Justice Minister Rob Nicholson told the House of Commons during question period."
""No more witch hunts by the Canadian Human Rights Commission, no more persecuting their political enemies", said Levant."

That'll just leave these "human rights" commissions, aka kangaroo kourts, in business, employing fascist bureaucrats feeding at the taxpayers' trough. The best answer is to just abolish the "human rights" commissions. Otherwise, they'll look for, and likely find, ways to continue to operate and make trouble.
Ya, I think it's time to examine the need for them to even exist. In fact, there's a whole suite of institutions resulting from Liberal group-think (such as the CBC) that should be reviewed and the need for them to continue should be questioned. The Harper government has started to do this, but it's mighty slow.
I would have liked to see this bill introduced when they were in a minority position, just to see how the Liberals, Bloc and NDP would have reacted to the attempt to remove an element of the police state from the books. It would have put them between a rock and a hard place and maybe hastened their demise.
