Oh! Step One In The NDP's ...

...long journey back:

Saskatchewan NDP promises no small business tax if party elected

But what NDPer can keep a promise like that, and still be an NDPer?

How kind and generous of the NDP, deigning to let some small businesspeople keep their own money...I suppose that's a step forward for a bunch of Socialists.

Personally, I take a libertarian view on taxes. I start from the premise that ALL income of everyone is their own money. Any govt or politician ought to be required to justify for every fiscal year, every penny of somebody else's money they want to take. Zero Based Budgeting ought to be the legally required norm in a Democracy.

Don't hold your breath or take your money out of the mattress. When they start speaking the same way about big business, and even more potentially shocking, big unions, that's when we'll know they have actually morphed into something completely different than what they have always been.

The big unions have been doing all the election campaign ads for them in order to get around legal impediments on political party advertizing during election campaigns.

They're not supposed to start until the election has actually been called, but since we have fixed dates, everybody knows when the election is supposed to take place. The only question was how long the campaign would be (ie. how many days ahead of the fixed date the writ would be dropped.)

The Saskatchewan Government Employees Union (SGEU) pulled out all stops several weeks ago and has been doing some blatantly self-serving negative advertizing against the Sask Party and the party's leader, Brad Wall.

Today, I happened to be listening to the radio and they were discussing the platforms and policies of each of the two major parties, and of course the NDP's is old, old stuff from 20 to 30 years ago, which makes me happy.

They are so stuck in the past. Everybody can see it. In more ways than one, they're history. They just can't break the mold. They pretend to be small business friendly, but they're in the pocket of big unions and basically do the SGEU's bidding.

They want to keep throwing money at corrupt Indian band councils, in an attempt to buy the First Nations vote. We all know what will happen to that money, with all the graft and corruption.

Anyway, they better not bother coming to my door. I'll have no trouble telling them where to shove it.
