A Return to Civil War?

Hariri's Allies Back UN Inquiry as Hezbollah Topples Lebanon's Government

Lebanese government collapses

Whatever happens, I hope Hezbollah bites the dust and the tidal wave extends all the way to Iran.

The only problem there is that Hezbollah is Iran's proxy and they've built up very substantial, well armed forces, especially in southern Lebanon. These forces can't be defeated without a major war in Lebanon.

The Shia plurality in central and southern Lebanon is from whence Hezbollah gets it's cannon fodder troops. The other minorities in Lebanon, Maronite Christians and Sunni Muslims, don't want another civil war, they remember the decade plus of nightmare from the last civil war.

Which leaves Israel as the only power capable of destroying Lebanon. I read in the Jerusalem Post that Israel, through the US, told the Lebanese Govt, prior to it's fall, that Israel won't militarily intervene, as long as Israel is not attacked.

So, it appears that Iran and Syria have effectively take over the Lebanese state.

All this trouble in the Middle East ultimately goes back to Iran. As long as the Mullah Dictatorship is in power, there will be deep danger and unrest.

And now, China is acting as a behind-the-scenes defender of the Mullah Dictatorship. The Chinese are doing this -the quid pro quo- for the sake of guaranteed access to Iranian oil. Here's one example, via Strategy Page.

Okay. So I'm a blood thirsty war monger, but that's what I'm hoping for.

I visited Lebanon in 1973. It was a beautiful place. And then the Civil War happened. It's been barbarian territory ever since. In a sense, the war is not yet over. Just like the continued existence of Islamofascism is unfinished business from WWII.
