As any elected official must, Mr. Nenshi will have to make a lot of adjustments in his family life. Being mayor of a large city is a fulltime job, and he's going to need a supportive Council (and Deputy Mayor)who are all looking in the same direction.
Calgary is a more mature and sophisticated city than many people, mostly easterners, think. The voters wanted a break with the unproductive recent past, and they believed that a business professor, rather than a journalist, would do the job. Good on ya, Calgary.
Curious about him, I watched several of the YouTube videos about him. Overall impression, lots of good pie in the sky dreams, not much experience. Good luck to him, but I think his work is cut out for him. When an academic steps out into the real world, there's always a big bite of reality waiting for him.
It's been my experience that, no matter how well informed or experienced a person is, elected office offers a major learning curve...and a major shift in priorities.
