Seriously, Journalists Have Lost It

Based on the language in the first few sentences of this article, you'd swear it was an opinion piece. But no, the tab at the top says it's "news". Interesting, anyway, but sheesh! Why not call it what it is?

It's a column. It says it at the bottom of the piece.

Good morning, CBCer. Funny you should post anonymously. Why is that? Your IP address and other tacking info clearly show you are posting from a computer on CBC's computer network.

Burying it at the bottom should do, huh? Typical.

Right at the top, before the reader even glances at the first line of text is a line of tabs. Besides the usual "Home" tab, there is one called "News" and one called "Opinion", and a whole bunch of others categories. These are placed where they will catch the eye of the reader. Don't tell me you believe that burying the word "column" - which could, btw, legitimately be used under any of several of the tabs - gives the Ottawa Citizen an out, when it clearly should have been under the "Opinion" tab.

I have a question for you. Are you the same CBC staffer who has been visiting my blog quite regularly for the past couple of months or so, or are there several of you checking in. Just curious.
