What Happens to Politically Incorrect Words?

They keep piling up on the dung heap until someone finally says, "screw it!"

The American Thinker has a great article about why placing taboos on the utterance certain "insensitive" words just doesn't work. This has been my thinking for a very, very long time. What you call it is not the problem, folks. The "problem" is not in the words, it's in the attitudes to the thing itself.

After all, as one of the commenters at American Thinker said:
"Rose Kennedy made a number of public service announcements in the early '60s where she referred to the "mentally retarded" and was applauded for her efforts on their behalf. Was she being "insensitive", whatever the Hell that's supposed to mean, when she made these statements? Remember, one of her own children was "mentally retarded" and Mrs. Kennedy was able to speak out as she did."
Go read it: What's Wrong With "Retarded"?
