Canada's Aboriginals have a chance to switch direction

As far as I'm concerned, I agree with Quesnel and Jacobs. It is high time the election of the AFN chief became the responsibility of all First Nations people, not just band councils, many of which are corrupt beyond belief. And by far, the worst case scenario would be the election of Perry Bellegarde. With some fresh vision, perhaps that organization can begin to actually achieve something for the rank and file aboriginal person living on reserve. A comprehensive overhaul of the Indian Act is long overdue and has been prevented repeatedly by previous leaders of the AFN. At the band council level, the Act ensures that accountability is not to the people who live on reserve, which is one of the reasons dysfunction prevails, while Chiefs get to hand out favours to their relatives and backers and the Indian Industry thrives. They like it that way, so no wonder they stonewall amendments and/or repeal of the Act.
