Sharia and Bal

Over at Xanthippa's blog, Balbulican and I went to war again over the authority of the blogger who runs Muslims Against Sharia. Bal, apparently, believes the author could not possibly be a real Muslim. I won, of course, because I base my position on facts, not on ideology.

For Xanthippa, here is a list of good sites that you may want to explore. They are run by Muslims who wish to either reform their faith or who have given up on it and are working to discredit it. Either way, they are excellent sources for reliable information.

Muslim World Today

Institution for the Secularization of Islam

Islam Watch

"I won."

Heh. My eight year old nephew is fond of that ploy too. I guess some folks never outgrow the rhetorical strategies that work when they're kids. But that why blogs are fun, isn't it? You can pretend anything you want.

You initially bought into their nonsense hook, line and sinker. I'm glad that you eventually figured out there something odd about group of self proclaimed Muslims who claim to be editing the word of their God. You were a bit slower than the rest of us to catch on, that's all.

Nice you see you played my meme.

Bal, since you seem to have difficulty understanding plain English, let me make it very clear to you. I support what these people are doing. Their website is an excellent source. I just don't agree with some of the style used by my principal contact with the organization. Where or not he is genuinely Muslim, I have no way of knowing and, besides, it is irrelevant. Go that?

And this silly argument of yours that no Muslim would ever entertain adapting their holy book to modernity, shit man, Christians have done that several times throughout history. Biblical scholars are constantly reinterpreting passages of scripture. Get a brain!!

Why, no, Louise, not at all. My English is pretty good. I have a hard time taking folks who use infantile insults like " F*%$^@ retard" seriously - apparently you don't. No problem.

'Where or not he is genuinely Muslim, I have no way of knowing and, besides, it is irrelevant. Go that?"

Ah. So it's irrelevant to you that an organization called "Muslims Against Sharia", and raising money under that name, and claiming to rewrite the Koran, is actually "Muslim". Well, that's your call, of course.

So let's say you ran across a group of calling itself "Christians for Renewal", who took exception to some of the passages of the Bible and was rewriting it to remove the bits THEY found objectionable. Would your views on that group differ if you learned that the project was actually being run by a group of Islamists claiming to be Christian?

That wouldn't make any difference to you at all, I take it?

"And this silly argument of yours that no Muslim would ever entertain adapting their holy book to modernity, shit man, Christians have done that several times throughout history."

Very good. You're beginning to catch on. Christians have indeed scrutinized and edited their holy book. They have not, to the best of my knowledge, edited anyone else's: nor have they outsourced the project to Jews, Muslims, or Hindus. Now do you begin to understand why it might actually make a difference who the folks behind this project really are?

"Get a brain!!"

Got one, thanks. It came preloaded with both logic and civility. Ever considered an upgrade?
